The Indianapolis 500 or INDY 500 is the 95th Race of this kind and is scheduled at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on May 29, 2011. Indianapolis 500 is one of the premier event of IZOD IndyCar Series season 2011. The track will be available for practice from May 14 and the trails will be held from May 21-24.
The race will be the third of the three-year long Centennial era, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the opening of the track (1909) and 100th anniversary of the first Indianapolis 500 (1911). The race was suspended during WWI (1917–18) and WWII (1942–45), therefore the 100th running of the event will not occur until 2016. [Source: Wikipedia]
Broadcasting Rights:
Time trials and Carb Day will be covered live in the United States on Versus. The announcing team consists of Bob Jenkins, Jon Beekhuis and Wally Dallenbach, Jr. Pit reporters include Lindy Thackston, Marty Snider, and Kevin Lee. Robin Miller serves as analyst and “insider.”
Daily practice will be streamed live over the internet. WFNI will broadcast nightly from the track with Trackside with Curt Cavin and Kevin Lee, followed by Donald Davidson’s The Talk of Gasoline Alley.
The race itself will be broadcast live in high definition in the United States on ABC beginning at 11:00 a.m. EDT. Brent Musburger will serve as host. Marty Reid will handle the lap-by-lap duties, with Scott Goodyear and Eddie Cheever serving as color commentators. The pit reporters will be Jerry Punch, Vince Welch, Jamie Little, and Rick DeBruhl. In the Indianapolis market, the live broadcast will be blacked out on WRTV, and shown same-day tape delay in prime time.
The IMS Radio Network will broadcast the race live on approximately 400 affiliates, as well as AFN, the LeSEA broadcasting network, and World Harvest Radio. The broadcast will be carried on XM channel 145 and on Sirius channel 212 through the “Best of XM” package. Mike King will anchor the radio broadcast.
