The three points at Villa were very welcome as a tough campaign gets underway for the first few weeks but Martinez and the team will not sink into their shells and will give any team a game – hopefully even a first win against a top four side, too.

Defence were again impressive and Titus Bramble hopefully will get that England call up soon enough. Scharner, Melchiot and Figueroa were all great, too. A truly inspired performance which will have heartened a lot of Latics fans and others alike after a bit of a downer in recent weeks in terms of the transfer market but hopefully, any potential gaps can be filled before the window closes as Martinez is eager to do.
Wolves manager Mick McCarthy saw his side lose 0-2 at home to West Ham. It was a painful loss for the home side as they know home form will be key to them this season. That said, West Ham are tricky customers but they themselves face a massive crisis to try and meet their debt problems.
